Get to know Cordelia Kingsbridge

Cordelia Kingsbridge has always been fascinated by the complexities of human motivation, behavior, and thought. These interests led her to a BA in Anthropology and Linguistics from the University of Pittsburgh in 2010, an MSW from the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work in 2013 - and, ultimately, to the joy of writing fiction.

She never even considered writing until college, when, as a long-time member of the Harry Potter fandom, she decided to try her hand at writing her own fanfiction. After many wonderful years as a fanfiction writer, she felt the urge to transition to original fiction. Wanting her original work to be judged separately from her fanworks, she created the new pseudonym “Cordelia Kingsbridge” and started from scratch.

In the autumn of 2011, as she began her first semester of graduate school, Cordelia also began writing her first original novel. Close Protection was published for free, one chapter at a time, on sites like LiveJournal and Fiction Press. It quickly gained momentum, and over the next five years, she published four additional novels online in the same manner, along with dozens of associated short stories.

During this same time period, Cordelia made the disappointing discovery that direct practice in the field of social work was not for her. Observing that she was searching for a new direction, her parents offered a deal: If she would return to their home state of Florida with them, they would help support her while she tried to make her dream of becoming a published author a reality.

Cordelia accepted, moved back to Florida, and worked part-time as a server while striving towards that goal. In 2016, she revised her online novel From the Ashes and submitted it to Riptide Publishing for consideration. Retitled Can’t Hide From Me, the novel was published later that same year, marking the start of her career as a professional author and paving the way for the popular Seven of Spades series that began in 2017.

Today, Cordelia is incredibly grateful for the privilege of being a full-time author, exploring her passion for the intricacies of the human experience through fiction. Common themes in her works include complicated situational ethics, the search for connection, and the psychopathology of obsession - and, of course, opposites-attract relationships.

Away from her desk, Cordelia is a fitness fanatic. She can frequently be found strength-training, attending Zumba classes, and running obstacle course races, and is a proud member of the International Krav Maga Federation. She lives in South Florida with her spirited terrier mix Molly, spending most of her time indoors with the air conditioning on full blast!
